Committee and Discussion Groups

Committee meetings are open to all registered attendees. Voting is limited to committee members, and projects are generally assigned to committee members.

Open Discussion Groups A relatively new addition to the NMC meeting, the objective of open discussion groups is to facilitate discussion and information exchange in areas of special interest among meeting registrants. Unlike a typical committee, there are not members appointed to the discussion groups. Instead, the discussion groups are open, and everyone is welcome to actively participate. Any actions or projects that result will be assigned to a working group, which will function until the project is complete. Potential topics for the discussion groups will be posted online and provided during the conference.Individuals are encouraged to suggest topics for discussion.

Committee Meetings

NMC committee meetings are open to all registered NMC Annual Meeting attendees. Generally, committee members are seated at the table and visitors are seated on the extra chairs set in the room. Visitors are welcome to participate in committee discussion; however, only committee members are allowed to vote. In addition, the committee chair reserves the right to hold an “executive session,” which includes only committee members.

NMC members are encouraged to get involved in the organization by serving on a committee. All NMC members in good standing are eligible to serve. Committees have a limited size (21 maximum) and members serve a three-year term. Individuals may serve on a maximum of two committees at the same time. Committee chairs make recommendations to the board of directors for individuals to serve on committees. The board approves all committee appointments. If you are interested in serving on a committee, you should contact the committee chair at the meeting or contact the NMC office.

Open Discussion Groups

The objective of Open Discussion Groups is to “facilitate discussion and information exchange in areas of special interest among meeting registrants.” Unlike a traditional NMC committee, there are not members appointed to the discussion group, nor are there term limits for those involved. Instead, the discussion groups are open and everyone is invited to participate. Each group has a facilitator to guide the discussions.

All attendees are invited to bring issues or questions forward for the group to discuss. Any actions or projects that may result will be appointed to a working group, which will function until the project is completed.
