What to See and Do
St. Pete Beach is a barrier island community, located off the Pinellas County mainland of Saint Petersburg, which is just south of Treasure Island and 20 miles from Clearwater Beach. With a permanent population of about 10,000, the area is a popular winter retreat for people living in others parts of the United States, Canada and Europe. The city was incorporated in 1957 when the towns of Pass-A-Grille, Don CeSar, Belle Vista, St. Petersburg Beach and unincorporated Pinellas County became the City of St. Petersburg Beach. In 1994, citizens voted to shorten the name to St. Pete Beach to lessen the confusion with the City of St. Petersburg, which is located to the east on the mainland.
With several miles of pristine, white sand beaches, year-round sunshine and an abundance of recreation opportunities, St. Pete Beach is a wonderful place to visit. From the shops and restaurants along St. Pete Beach to the longest undeveloped stretch of public beach in the county at Pass-a-Grille Beach, visitors find the area a unique place to get away.
Nearby activities include golf, fishing, sunset sailing cruises, cycling and shopping. Popular attractions less an hour from St. Pete Beach include Busch Gardens, Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo and Florida Botanical Gardens. Within 90 minutes, you’ll find Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Sea World and Universal Studios.
St. Pete Beach winter weather can be very pleasant in late January. The average high temperature is close to 70° F. (21° C.) and the average low is 54° F. (12 C.).
